Overview

Portfolio design is tricky. There's a fine line between doing too much and too little, going too deep on projects and not deep enough. Visually, I want something appealing but not distracting.

I thought hard about those tensions for this iteration and tried to thread the needle as well as I could.

Problem

My old portfolio was well considered and took a lot of time to build, it was also my first full site from scratch from a development standpoint. I've grown a lot since then. I attempted updates to fix what I didn't like, but eventually accepted it was time for a total overhaul.

Goals

  • Modernize visual language and interaction patterns
  • Reduce project count, increase quality per project
  • Showcase my thought process more clearly
  • Create a maintainable, scalable system
  • Add more personality to the design and content

Solution

I pulled back visual weight that detracted from the work itself. I overhauled all projects, both content and visuals, in an effort to show process, not just outcomes.

From a development standpoint, I built reusable components so future updates require less work.
